Chewed Up Business CardMy 7-month-old daughter got ahold of one my business cards and started chomping away with all two teeth. Fortunately, neither the ink or paper is toxic. But her final verdict is that our business cards are only one step above puréed brussels sprouts on the taste scale.

Believe it or not, we did have other jobs before tastes like. We’ve posted quite a few examples of that work as it relates to tastes like in our portfolio section. Check it out here.

I’ve been a big fan of Seth Godin for years now. His blog is full of short insights on marketing.

Today, he wrote a little post on typography that I think a lot of people in the specialty foods industry should take note of.

If you send me a flyer with dated, cheesy or overused type, it’s like showing up in a leisure suit for a first date. If your website looks like Geocities or some scammy info marketer, I won’t even stay long enough to read it.

And I think this is even more crucial when it comes to packaging. On a store shelf, your design is instantly compared to the myriad other products right next to it. If your product looks the least bit hokey, expected, similar or just plain boring, prepare to be ignored.

Slather Brand Foods LogoWe’ve partnered up with Robin Rhea of Slather Brand Foods to battle mediocrity. Robin’s a fantastic cook with some recipes handed down from generations and quite a few of her own. First out of the gates is Charlie Hogjog’s Slatherin’ Sauce. When we first tasted this sauce, we just about flipped our lids. It’s a sweet tomato-and-pineapple-based sauce with just a little bit of a kick. Look for it in February.
